4th of July windsock craft

4th of July Craft – Patriotic Windsock

With the 4th of July only a week away, I thought it was about time to share a simple and fun patriotic craft that the kids can enjoy. This one involves getting your hands dirty, so of course it is a favorite with the boys. It can also be adapted for other holidays just by changing the colors of the paint and other materials. These make a great decoration for family gatherings and cookouts.

Materials:

  • White sheets of poster board
  • Foam paintbrush
  • Red and blue washable paint
  • Scissors
  • Red and blue streamers
  • Ribbon
  • Tape

Step 1:

Paint one of your child’s hands red.

Step 2:

Place two red handprints anywhere on the poster board. You may need to repaint the hand in between each print.

Step 3:

Paint one of your child’s hands blue and have them place two blue handprints anywhere on the poster board.

Step 4:

Roll the poster board into a circular shape with the handprints facing outward and tape it closed at the seam.

Step 5:

Cute two lengths of red streamers and two lengths of blue streamers. These can be as long or as short as you like.

Step 6:

Tape the four pieces of cut streamer to the inside of the windsock as shown in the picture above.

Step 7:

Cut three pieces of ribbon all the same length. Again, as long as you like, but keep in mind these will be used to hang your windsock up.

Step 8:

Attach the three pieces of ribbon to the inside of the windsock as shown in the picture above. Hang your windsock and enjoy your festive 4th of July craft.

i’m planning on using your craft this week to decorate for the 4th.  I shared it in my post on simple ways to prepare for a party to celebrate for the 4th.  http://www.thishappymom.com/5-simple-steps/july-4th-party#.T-sLlo73DoA
