I know, I know, it is an Angry Bird. If your kids are like mine, you are likely tired of seeing or hearing about these disgruntled guys. However, my boys still love them and the thought of making their own Angry Bird felt puppets was pretty appealing. I am going to do these in a series over a few weeks time, so if the red bird isn’t your favorite, keep checking back for “how to’s” on making the other ones. These are pretty simple to put together and definitely a cheap source of fun!
- Yellow, black, white and red felt
- Hot glue gun or craft glue
- Popsicle stick
- Sharpie for tracing
- Cup or other circle for tracing
- Hole punchers
Use scissors and a hole puncher to trace and cut the shapes above out of felt. You just have to eye ball the shapes, but they are all fairly easy and just a series of triangles, circles and rectangles.
Arrange and glue the shapes on the main red felt circle that will be your Angry Bird puppet. I like to place all the pieces and then glue them one by one because then you know exactly how the bird will end up looking.
When the pieces are dry, flip the Angry Bird puppet over and glue a popsicle stick to the back of it. I put ours at an angle so that it would look like the bird was crashing down as the boys played with them.
That’s it! See, I told you it was simple. The cost is about $.25 max, since you can get plenty of Angry Birds out of one piece of felt.
